If your dispute has already become a lawsuit, Kern County Mediation Center staff may offer you a chance to mediate your case at court on the day of your trial.  Our mediators are present at most of the following court sessions in downtown Bakersfield:

  • Small Claims: in downtown Bakersfield (Dept. 17)

  • Unlawful Detainers (Evictions): in downtown Bakersfield (Dept. 17)

  • Civil Harassments (Restraining Orders): in downtown Bakersfield (Dept. 17)

Usually there is only one mediator in the courtroom, so the mediator may not be able to offer assistance in every case.  If you want to be sure to have a chance to try mediation, be sure to arrive at the courtroom on time, and tell the mediator you want to use mediation—or contact the Mediation Center in advance to see if we can help you settle the case before your court date.

All of the Mediation Center's in-court services are offered free of charge.
