Small Claims Advisory Services
The Small Claims Advisory service is available, free of charge, for people and businesses with small claims disputes that have been, or could be, filed in Stanislaus County small claims court. Our advisors can explain small claims procedures, give you tips on how to prepare your case for trial, and give you information on what to do if you win (or lose) your case.

E-mail the Advisor
If you have internet access, e-mail can be a great way to get your questions answered. Your response will be in writing, the advisor can include helpful links or attach documents, and if you have follow-up questions, your e-mail "thread" will remind the advisor about your case.
Telephone Consultations
- Call an advisor at 209-524-3784.
Most people contact the small claims advisor by telephone. If that works best for you, feel free to call any time. The advisor spends most of the day on the phone, so there is a good chance that your call will go to voicemail. However, we are committed to responding to each and every call. Most of the time, your call will be returned on the same day--often in just a few minutes. But every call will be returned by the next business day.
Advisors are avaialble on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM (except when they are conducting in-person clinics and drop-in consultatons at the Stanislaus County Mediation Center or the Floyd Avenue Traffic/Small Claims Court.
If your call goes to voicemail, just leave your name and telephone number. To be safe, it makes sense to repeat the phone number—especially if you're calling from a cell phone. You don't need to leave a detailed message. The advisor would rather speak directly with you about your case.
"Office Hours"
If you would like help understanding or completing forms, or if you prefer to speak with the advisor in person, you can drop in on the advisor during "office hours." No appointments are necessary. However, your time with the advisor may be limited if other people are waiting. A private meeting room is not currently available at the Small Claims Court. If privacy is important, we recommend contacting the advisor by telephone or e-mail.
Small Claims Clinics
Each small claims clinic will begin with a presentation about small claims issues. After the presentation, the advisor will take general questions. Time permitting, the advisor may be able to assist you in completing forms or answering specific questions about your case.
